Having previously provided conveyor tunnels, an escape tunnel, a public road overpass arch and MSE headwalls to Newmont Ghana Limited’s Akyem Gold Mine, AIL Mining was selected to design and supply a portal extension for Newmont’s Carlin East Mine in Nevada.
Underground mining ceased at this site in 2007 but further exploration and engineering revealed additional ore and the mine was reactivated in 2011.
The portal extension was constructed from AIL Mining’s Bolt-A-Plate Structural Steel Plate to protect crews from falling debris. Available in the widest array of shapes and sizes, Bolt-A-Plate is ideal for many different mine site infrastructure applications with spans of up to 12 m (40′).
AIL Mining’s plate structures are ideal for remote locations and can be constructed in any weather. In this case, sections were assembled on-site during winter conditions, before being lifted into place.
Newmont Mining Corporation is one of the world’s largest gold producers with significant assets or operations in the United States, Australia, Peru, Indonesia, Ghana, Canada, New Zealand and Mexico.
