Prefabricated Bridge provides heavy-duty access to LNG gate station in PA

February 3, 2015

2014-00404 Wissler Run Bridge - Drumore, PA 007

A major energy infrastructure company needed a permanent bridge constructed over a stream crossing to gain access to a liquified natural gas (LNG) gate station for the installation of two-way piping beneath the Susquehanna River in Drumore, PA. Their project partner, Pinnacle Design/Build (PDB), recommended a heavy-duty Big R Modular Bridge from AIL Mining.

Bridge installs in one day
This value-engineered solution reduced the project cost and the project was completed in five weeks’ time, a day ahead of the pipe construction crew’s start of work. The bridge components were delivered in two sections from our Abingdon, VA facility and were installed in one day.

A temporary timber wearing surface provided trucks with an interim means of crossing the bridge. The timber running planks were later replaced with cast-in-place concrete wearing surface.

Our customer, PDB, provided the site civil engineering and designs for the micro-pile foundations, bridge, abutments and retaining walls for this project. Their crews had to work around existing buried LNG pipelines and an active stream, while meeting a very aggressive client schedule. Kudos to them for a job well done.
